Surgical breast reduction at PANTEA® in Munich
Many women value a well-formed breast and a harmonious body image. If the breasts are too large in relation to the physique, this can be perceived as very disturbing and a breast reduction may be considered. There is usually a genetic predisposition, but pregnancy or weight gain can also be the cause of greatly enlarged breasts. Affected patients often report chronic neck and back pain and inflammation in the underbust fold. In addition to these physical symptoms, many patients describe a great deal of psychological distress caused by overly large breasts.
Breast reduction surgery involves reducing the size of the breasts on the one hand and tightening or "lifting" them on the other. The result is a smaller, lighter and shapely breast that no longer sags even without wearing a bra.

Why does a breast reduction improve quality of life?
Many women attach great importance to a harmonious body image.
Many women develop physical and emotional suffering if their breasts are too large in relation to the rest of their body. On the one hand, there are aesthetic reasons, but more often it is health problems in particular that trigger the desire for a breast reduction.
The weight of oversized breasts can lead to tension, postural problems and ultimately to permanent back pain, which has a negative impact on health and well-being and also restricts freedom of movement. As a result of the excessive weight of the breast, the natural elasticity of the skin often decreases, which leads to a breast shape that is perceived as unaesthetic when the breasts sag.
Surgical breast reduction, which may be a medically necessary procedure, can solve or prevent health problems and at the same time shape an aesthetically pleasing breast, which can lead to an increase in quality of life, self-esteem and self-confidence.
Breast reduction treatment procedure at PANTEA® in Munich
Medical treatment comprises several steps: from diagnosis through to completion of treatment.
1.
The first step is a joint consultation. The doctors at PANTEA® take enough time for you and clarify all your questions. Photo documentation and a physical examination are also carried out.
2.
Depending on the findings, we will work with you to determine an individual treatment plan and discuss all the options for optimally implementing your desired treatment.
3.
Together with our patients, we decide on the most suitable surgical method for breast reduction during the consultation.
4.
The day before the operation you should drink enough fluids and get enough sleep so that you can have the operation in a healthy and rested state.
5.
On the day of the breast reduction operation, you should arrive at the clinic on an empty stomach, i.e. you should not eat anything for at least 6 hours before the operation and not drink anything for at least 2 hours before the operation.
6.
After the operation, our patients receive a "post-op kit". This contains useful aids, as well as hints and tips for optimal behavior during the healing phase and afterwards, as well as high-quality nutritional supplements and nutriceuticals to support the healing phase and the sustainable transition to a healthy and balanced diet.
Of course, we are always available to answer our patients' questions after the operation.
7.
We recommend that you take approx. 1 week off after the operation. Aftercare includes wearing a compression bra day and night for approx. 6 weeks. After 4 to 6 weeks you may resume light sports activities.
8.
Follow-up appointments are made after the operation in consultation with the surgeon, depending on the healing process. In addition, follow-up appointments can of course be arranged at any time in the event of uncertainties or questions after the operation.
9.
We take a holistic approach at PANTEA® and are therefore not only there for you before and during the operation, but are of course also at your side after the breast reduction.

Questions about surgical breast reduction
In principle, a breast reduction can be performed on an adult woman of any age over 18. It should be noted that you should have reached a stable desired weight before a breast reduction. You should also have stopped breastfeeding for at least six months before a breast reduction.
During a surgical breast reduction, excess skin, fat and glandular tissue is removed and the remaining breast tissue is used to shape a smaller and lighter breast. Depending on the findings and anatomy of the breast, various surgical techniques are used, all of which aim to create a shapely, firm and youthful-looking breast, the size of which fits the patient's individual physique and personal expectations very well.
Depending on the volume of excess skin and breast tissue to be removed, the incision and the associated extent of visible scars will vary. In most cases, there is such a massive excess of skin and tissue that a so-called "T-incision" is necessary. This results in a scar in the area of the underbust crease (later only slightly visible to a limited extent) and around the nipple and vertically below it (slightly visible). This technique has the advantage that with the help of your own tissue, a special reshaping process can be used to form your own inner cushion, which supports, shapes and stabilizes the breast in the long term as an "inner bra".
In breast reduction surgery, our ultimate goal is not only to create a beautiful and lighter breast, but also to minimize scarring by using the latest techniques.
During breast reduction, the size and shape of the breast can be individually adapted to the patient's own wishes.
As a rule, the ability to breastfeed can be maintained. However, there is a risk of an impairment of the ability to breastfeed or a reduction in milk production.
