Gynecomastia treatment in Munich
Gynaecomastia (male breast) is a benign enlargement of the mammary glands in men, which can occur on one or both sides and is sometimes associated with pain. Gynecomastia can develop for no apparent medical reason (idiopathic gynecomastia), be the result of a hormonal imbalance or occur as a side effect of certain medications.
What are the reasons for surgical removal of the male breast?
Men often find enlarged breasts unpleasant, embarrassing and unaesthetic, which often leads to problems with self-esteem. Furthermore, pain in the mammary gland can be perceived as very stressful.
Are preliminary examinations necessary before male breast reduction?
In a personal consultation, we clarify whether there could be medical reasons for the enlarged mammary gland. We often also recommend checking the hormone status with an endocrinologist and an ultrasound examination of the breast.
How is gynecomastia surgery performed in Munich?
In the vast majority of cases, gynecomastia surgery is performed under general anesthesia. Depending on the findings, the procedure can be performed on an outpatient or inpatient basis.
First, a crescent-shaped incision is made below the areola of the nipple. The surgeon uses this incision to remove the excess mammary gland tissue and, if necessary, suction out excess fat. If, in addition to the enlarged mammary gland, excess skin also needs to be corrected, the procedure can of course be combined with a breast lift.

What should be considered after gynecomastia surgery?
After the procedure, close follow-up care of the patient in our consultation hours is a matter of course. As we work with self-dissolving stitches, no stitches need to be removed. From our experience, we recommend taking at least one week's vacation to recover from the operation. Depending on your professional activity, you may need more time to recover. For optimal results after gynecomastia surgery, a compression bra should be worn day and night for six weeks and exercise should be avoided for six weeks.
