Eyelid lift
at PANTEA® in Munich
Our eyes are the mirror of our soul. Sometimes they reveal more about our habits and our age than we would like. The expression of our eyes is a central part of our communication. They are one of the most important parts of the body when it comes to making a first impression and if you want to convey strength and self-confidence. Drooping eyelids and bags under the eyes, on the other hand, can give our counterpart a sad or tired impression.
At an early stage or as a combination option with a surgical upper eyelid lift, we offer our minimally invasive Fotona SmoothEye® laser method for eyelid lifting without surgery without surgery. If sagging is already advanced, we recommend our proven surgical solution. This minimally invasive outpatient procedure can open up your gaze and restore a more youthful glow to your eyes.

What are the reasons for droopy eyelids?
The "tired eye" effect is often caused by excess skin on the upper eyelids, known as drooping eyelids. The skin on the face is thin and therefore particularly sensitive. It is often exposed to direct sunlight. In addition, the constant blinking of the eyelids puts a strain on the skin. Over time, the skin on the upper eyelid tends to slacken, as do the muscles around the eyes. As a result, the upper eyelid droops (colloquially referred to as a droopy eyelid) and the lower eyelid no longer lies as tightly against the eye. Protruding fatty tissue from the eye socket gives the eye an older, tired and even sad appearance. Some people also have drooping eyelids for genetic reasons, which are not purely a sign of ageing - e.g. often in people of East and Southeast Asian descent. Here, a characteristic drooping eyelid or monolid occurs disproportionately often.
What is done during a surgical upper eyelid lift?
In general, an eyelid lift, also known as blepharoplasty, refers to the removal of excess skin from the upper eyelid. Excess fatty tissue, particularly in the area of the inner corner of the eye, and, if necessary, part of the sagging eye ring muscle can be removed at the same time.

Procedure for a surgical upper eyelid lift with PANTEA®
The medical treatment takes place in one appointment at our practice in Munich and comprises several steps: from the consultation to the completed outpatient operation.
1.
The first step is a detailed consultation. During this session, your individual needs are assessed and a customized treatment plan is drawn up. The doctors at PANTEA® take enough time for you and clarify all your questions. Photo documentation and a physical examination are also carried out.
2.
We take a holistic approach at PANTEA® and are therefore not only there for you before and during the operation, but are of course also at your side after the operation.
3.
The day before the operation, you should drink enough fluids and get enough sleep so that you are in good health and well rested for the outpatient operation.
4.
On the day of the operation you may have a light breakfast, you do not have to come to the surgery on an empty stomach.
5.
We recommend that you take 5-7 days off after an eyelid lift operation. Aftercare includes cooling, elevation of the upper body on the day of the operation and for 2-3 days afterwards. You should refrain from sport for at least 2 weeks. The stitches are removed after approx. 5-7 days.
6.
Follow-up appointments are made in consultation with the surgeon depending on the healing process. In addition, follow-up appointments can of course be arranged at any time if there are any uncertainties or questions after the operation. For aftercare, we recommend special scar care and the continuous use of gentle skin care products as well as protection from direct sunlight.

Questions about surgical upper eyelid lifting
An upper eyelid lift can easily be performed under local anesthesia and on an outpatient basis. At the patient's request, general anesthesia and/or an inpatient stay are of course also possible. If you wish to have an upper eyelid lift under general anesthesia, the usual preoperative preparations, such as a resting ECG and laboratory values, are required. The decision to use general anesthesia can be particularly useful for anxious patients.
During an upper eyelid lift, the excess skin is removed through a fine incision, excess fatty tissue is resected if necessary depending on the findings and the wound is sutured with the utmost care. The resulting scar is usually very inconspicuous as it runs in the natural crease of the eyelid.
An upper eyelid lift is a very frequently performed and standardized procedure which, however, requires a great deal of experience and "dexterity" on the part of the surgeon.
The surgical upper eyelid lift, known as blepharoplasty, is extremely effective, is associated with few complications and leads to a quick and good recovery. The result is a long-lasting positive change in the appearance and function of the upper eyelid. Your appearance will look younger and fresher, which can lead to an increase in your self-confidence and quality of life. Your angle of vision and therefore your field of vision is widened.
The outpatient procedure to lift both upper eyelids usually takes about an hour. This is a standardized procedure that is performed very frequently in our practice, which means that the risk of complications is extremely low. After a short observation period in our practice, you may be picked up by your accompanying person after the visit by the attending specialist.
After an upper eyelid lift, you should consistently cool the forehead and eye area for several days and sleep with your upper body slightly elevated to avoid swelling or bruising. For this reason, you should plan at least 2-3 rest days. It may be advisable to use moisturizing eye drops.
The stitches are typically removed after around 7 days. At this point, only slight traces of the procedure are usually still visible and patients are "socially acceptable" again. Afterwards, we recommend daily scar massage with a scar gel.
It is possible to apply a light daytime make-up again from approx. 2 weeks after the operation. Sport, sauna and steam baths should be avoided for approx. 6 weeks postoperatively.
Like every other part of our body, the skin in the upper eyelid area is subject to the ageing process and external influences. Nevertheless, a lasting rejuvenating effect can be expected for several years after an upper eyelid lift.
If desired, the surgical upper eyelid lift at PANTEA® in Munich can be combined with other surgical and aesthetic medical treatments to optimize the rejuvenating effect. Possible combinations include a surgical "brow lift" or a minimally invasive thread lift to lift the eyebrows and/or a non-invasive laser treatment to tighten the skin around the eyes and forehead and/or wrinkle injections. Our specialists will be happy to advise you personally on which treatment combination is best for your desired result.
